There are some things in our lives that we tend to hold close to hearts, so close that we don’t even release them to God.

For us, it was the desire to have a child. We had a very specific way in mind that we wanted this promise to come to pass – we wanted God to miraculously heal us and have us conceive our child(ren)…and that was the only way we wanted to see it happen. Sure, we discussed adoption, but we continued to hold on to that desire to conceive, refusing to let it go.

That was a painful approach to take! Why? Because God’s plans are Sovereign. He has a purpose and a plan that is greater than anything we can see. He sees the big picture when we only have a narrow perspective. We are not truly in control, but God is.

It was in the releasing of this fallacy of having control over the outcome that we were able to experience true FREEDOM. It is not easy getting to the point of humility and vulnerability to lay it all out before God, releasing that thing that we held so tightly, releasing what seemed so precious. It is a process, sometimes a painful one, but it is worth it. Healing and wholeness are on the other side of that release.

We no longer seek to dictate to God HOW or WHEN His will should be done. We are His, for His purpose and His plan. We are clay in the Potter’s hands for Him to determine HOW to mold us and make us, for His perfect will to be done.

Is there something in your life today that you are holding on to that you should really be releasing to God?
Let today be the day you choose to take a different approach. Let go and trust God with every part of your life.

My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit;
    a broken and contrite heart
    you, God, will not despise.

Psalm 51:17
